How to choose a magnesium glycinate supplement

The most useful figure on the label is the amount of elemental magnesium per serving, which is much lower than the weight of the whole compound. Capsules and tablets usually provide 100mg to 200mg of magnesium per serving, while powders let you adjust the amount and mix it into water. Some products add vitamin B6, zinc or extra ingredients, so check the full ingredient list if you only want magnesium.

Glycinate or citrate?

Both are common forms of magnesium. Glycinate is bound to glycine and citrate to citric acid; the label shows which form and how much magnesium each serving provides.
