Types of creatine beyond monohydrate
Alongside standard monohydrate, creatine is sold in other forms. Creatine HCl (hydrochloride) is a salt form often taken in smaller servings, creatine malate is bound to malic acid, and buffered or pH-modified creatine is designed to be less acidic. Multi-creatine blends combine several forms, sometimes with HMB or other ingredients.
Brands include Applied Nutrition, Weider, SAN, Kaged Muscle and SciTec, in capsules and flavoured or unflavoured powders. If you are deciding between forms, compare the amount of creatine per serving on the label, as this differs from the weight of the compound itself.
