Cholecalciferol may help improve vitamin D status more effectively than the same amount of ergocalciferol (D2). Once taken, the body converts D3 into its active form, calcitriol, as it needs it. Calcitriol helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus from food and supports the production of osteocalcin, a structural protein in bone.
